28-year-old man remanded after court rejects guilty plea for alleged crack pipe

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 28-year-old man has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after his explanation to a guilty plea on a charge involving an alleged crack pipe amounted to a denial of the offence.

Allen Castillo appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, charged with possession of utensils used in connection with smoking a controlled drug.

Police allege Castillo was found with a silver pipe with a green tip, measuring approximately three inches long, which was allegedly adapted for smoking crack cocaine.

Castillo initially pleaded guilty but told the court that he had just arrived at the bus shed near Pallotti High School when another man who had been smoking there left shortly before police arrived.

“I just arrived at the bus shed at Pallotti High School when wah young man meh just deh deh the smoke and he left, then the police came and found the pipe and blame me,” Castillo told the court.

Because his explanation disputed ownership or possession of the pipe, the Magistrate declined to accept the guilty plea and entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.

Castillo was offered bail in the sum of $500 plus one surety of the same amount but was unable to secure his release. He also had an outstanding $105 traffic fine stemming from a conviction for driving a motorcycle without holding a Belize driver’s licence.

He was consequently remanded to the Belize Central Prison and is due back in court on October 21, 2026.
