The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has confirmed that its air component under Operation Fansan Yamma, Sector 1, carried out successful airstrikes that neutralised terrorists and disrupted planned attacks across parts of Niger State, particularly in Rafi and Mariga Local Government Areas.
The operation, which took place between May 20 and May 23, 2026, was based on credible intelligence on terrorist movements and suspected plans to launch coordinated attacks on communities and security formations in the axis.
According to the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the first phase of the operation targeted terrorists gathered around Tungan Bako and Kasuwan Daji in Rafi LGA, where precision air interdiction was executed.
He explained that on May 21, additional strikes were carried out after terrorists were observed moving on motorcycles and footpaths with rustled cattle from Tungunguna towards Uregi, adding that their movement and escape routes were effectively neutralised.
“Further armed reconnaissance missions conducted on May 23 over Dogon Dawa and adjoining communities in Mariga LGA resulted in precision strikes that disrupted planned attacks on troops’ locations,” Mr Ejodame stated.
He added that post-operation assessments confirmed the neutralisation of a significant number of terrorists and the disruption of their planned offensives, describing the mission as part of ongoing efforts to degrade terrorist capabilities in the region.
