Airtel Africa has confirmed that it will list its mobile money business, Airtel Money, on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) later this year, marking one of the largest planned fintech listings in Europe and underscoring the rapid growth of digital financial services across Africa. According to Reuters and Financial Times, the company selected London as its preferred listing venue after evaluating several international exchanges, citing the city’s deep capital markets and global investor base. The long-awaited initial public offering follows a brief delay earlier this year caused by volatile market conditions and is expected to unlock significant value from Airtel Africa’s fast-growing fintech arm.
Airtel Money has become one of Africa’s largest mobile financial services platforms, serving more than 54 million customers across 14 African markets. During the 2025/26 financial year, the business generated approximately $1.35 billion in revenue, reflecting strong growth in digital payments, remittances, merchant services, savings, and financial inclusion products. Industry reports indicate the IPO could value Airtel Money at around $10 billion and raise approximately $1.5 billion, making it London’s biggest new listing since 2021.
The planned flotation comes as mobile money continues to transform financial services across Africa, where millions of consumers rely on digital wallets for everyday transactions in markets with limited access to traditional banking. Airtel Africa has increasingly positioned fintech as a core pillar of its long-term growth strategy, complementing its telecommunications business while benefiting from rising smartphone adoption and expanding digital economies across the continent.
For Airtel Africa, the London IPO represents more than a capital-raising exercise. Analysts say the listing will provide additional funding to expand Airtel Money’s services, strengthen its competitive position against regional rivals, and reinforce Africa’s growing influence in the global fintech landscape. The transaction could also provide a welcome boost to London’s capital markets while highlighting international investor confidence in Africa’s rapidly expanding digital financial services sector.
