Think of all the life that can be lived in just a year. Now multiply it by 15, add a marriage, a couple kids, the loss of beloved family members countless cups of coffee, gigs played, songs written and tossed away and then revived. This is where the couple behind LA-based band Big Harp find themselves, with Runs to Blue, their first album since 2015.
In the great homespun tradition of folksy family bands like Mike + Ruthy or Dolly Varden vets Steve Dawson and Diane Christiansen, Big Harp’s Stefanie Drootin and Chris Senseney have been finding ways to make it work for a long time and Runs to Blue is a beautiful testament to the resilience that takes. Earnest and honest, also at times misty-eyed and humorous, these new songs shake out all the rumpled early mornings and sleepless nights of parenting, and the effort needed to keep a long relationship—not just with your spouse, but with your artistry—alive and breathing.
