United States (US) ambassador to Namibia John Giordano says American companies will create jobs for Namibians and contribute to economic growth.
Giordano said this last week during his tour to Baker Hughes facility, an American company based at Walvis Bay.
“This is what American companies do. They bring jobs. The young Namibians who took us through the operations show immense engineering expertise. Some studied in Houston, others in Dubai and elsewhere. My understanding is that there are more jobs on the horizon,” he said.
Giordano said these are small examples of what American companies bring, including ingenuity, innovations, and technology to Namibia, which in return boosts the economy and services the industry.
He said the two countries will benefit greatly from the industry’s mineral resources, thereby strengthening their partnership.
Giordano was joined by US department of energy officials.
He said innovation can support Namibia’s energy security, while driving economic growth for both countries.
Giordano said he spoke with senior leaders from US companies Baker Hughes, SLB, and Halliburton about the scale of opportunities in Namibia’s emerging oil and gas sector and what it means for regional energy security and long-term supply resilience.
“Building reliable energy infrastructure in southern Africa strengthens trusted supply chains, supports US and Namibian industries, and reduces dependence on unreliable sources,” he said.
He added this approach advances a regional energy architecture grounded in transparency, commercial discipline, and strategic independence – outcomes that make both the US and Namibia safer, stronger, and more prosperous.
