Hon. Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries, and Hon. Luis Alex Balona, Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, met with Shri Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for External Affairs in the Government of India, on May 13, 2026, during his two-day visit to Belize.
During the meeting, the Ministers discussed areas of bilateral cooperation between Belize and India, including issues in agriculture common to both countries. Topics discussed included the provision of small and heavy-duty agricultural machinery to strengthen national food production and improve land preparation for farmers in Belize; technical cooperation in the development of bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides; strengthening national capacity in water management and precision agriculture technologies to address recurring drought conditions; strengthening technical capacity in post-harvest management in the vegetable production sector; strengthening the cacao sector; modernizing SPS systems through digital surveillance and early warning tools; and strengthening quality infrastructure in standards management.
The dialogue was cordial and amicable, with both sides reaffirming the current robust relationship between the Government and people of Belize and the Government and people of India.
