By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize has achieved a major regional milestone after officially assuming the rotating Chairmanship of the Caribbean Development Bank’s Board of Governors.
The transition took place during the closing ceremony of the CDB’s 56th Annual Meeting in Nassau, The Bahamas, placing Belize at the forefront of one of the Caribbean’s most important financial and development institutions.
The announcement represents another significant achievement for Belize on the regional stage and comes as the country prepares to host the bank’s 57th Annual Meeting in June 2027.
Belize’s Alternate Governor to the Caribbean Development Bank, Dr. Osmond Martinez, formally accepted the chairmanship on behalf of Prime Minister John Briceño.
The Caribbean Development Bank plays a critical role in financing infrastructure projects, education initiatives, climate resilience programs, economic development efforts and poverty reduction strategies throughout the region.
By assuming the chairmanship, Belize will help guide discussions and priorities affecting member countries across the Caribbean over the next year.
The leadership role also provides Belize with a valuable opportunity to highlight its own development priorities while strengthening relationships with regional and international partners.
Officials say the appointment reflects growing confidence in Belize’s role within regional development and economic affairs.
