Belize Forest Department welcomes new partners to support Greening Belize

By Zoila Palma:  The Belize Forest Department has expanded its Greening Belize partnerships through the signing of Data Sharing Agreements with WCS Belize and KT Enterprises.

These partnerships will strengthen efforts to track, monitor and report on restoration activities being carried out across the country. The information collected through these initiatives will help support the monitoring of Belize’s progress in restoring degraded and deforested landscapes.

The restoration efforts also contribute to Belize’s commitments under the Bonn Challenge, a global initiative focused on restoring degraded and deforested landscapes and improving the health and resilience of ecosystems.

The Forest Department said collaboration among government, organizations and other partners is important to advancing the country’s restoration goals.

Members of the public are also being encouraged to participate in the One Million Trees Campaign by planting trees at homes, farms, schools, workplaces and in communities.

Trees can be recorded through the Greening Belize App, with each submission helping track progress toward the national goal of planting one million trees by 2030.
