A new protest compilation album title Contra-ICE Vol. 1: ICE OUT is out today via SoundsGood Records. While not specifically a roots music release, it does feature artists No Depression has covered, like Tom Morello, Adrian Quesada, and Orquestra Pacifico Tropical. The album's 47 tracks are now available via digital download, CD, and an extremely limited quantities of vinyl. Proceeds from the benefit album and accompanying release show (which takes place tomorrow at La Cita in Los Angeles) will directly fund frontline powerhouses, including the National Day Laborer Organizing Network and Unión del Barrio to defend labor rights and protect community-built wealth.

Lalo Alcaraz, the artistic director and cartoonist for Contra-ICE, stated in a press release:

Artists, musicians, performers, and decent people from all walks of life are pushing back against the authoritarianism we are feeling in our own country. Contra-ICE is one expression of that. Through art, humor, and creativity, we are using free expression to remind people what is at stake and to show how culture itself can be a form of resistance.

The two-CD set will include 53 tracks, which were transferred and restored from the original 78rpm records, as well as an 80-page booklet with liner notes and history. The compilation is due out November 6.
