At this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, filmmaker Boots Riley and actors LaKeith Stanfield and Adam Scott took the stage alongside NEON executives to preview two wildly different but equally intriguing upcoming films.

Riley and Stanfield brought high energy to the presentation as they teased their latest collaboration, I Love Boosters. The film, which also stars Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Poppy Liu, Eiza González, Will Poulter, Don Cheadle, and Demi Moore, centers on a crew of professional shoplifters targeting a ruthless fashion mogul.

Described with Riley’s signature satirical edge, I Love Boosters blends social commentary with chaotic humor, framing its story as something akin to “community service.” Early footage screened for attendees hinted at a stylish, subversive ride that leans into Riley’s knack for mixing absurdity with sharp cultural critique.

Meanwhile, Scott shifted the tone entirely with a chilling preview of Hokum, a horror thriller written and directed by Damian McCarthy. In the film, Scott plays novelist Ohm Bauman, who retreats to a remote inn to scatter his parents’ ashes — only to become entangled in eerie folklore surrounding a witch said to haunt the honeymoon suite.

As unsettling visions mount and a mysterious disappearance unfolds, Bauman is forced to confront deeply buried trauma. The footage teased a slow-burning psychological horror steeped in isolation, grief, and creeping dread.

Together, the presentations showcased NEON’s continued commitment to bold, filmmaker-driven storytelling from Riley’s genre-defying satire to McCarthy’s atmospheric horror — offering a glimpse at two films that could not be more different, yet equally captivating.
