Cape Verde has officially launched the development process for two major digital governance initiatives: a Data Strategy for Public Administration and a national Artificial Intelligence Strategy. The kick-off meeting brought together senior government officials, including the Secretary of State for the Digital Economy, members of the digital economy team, external consultants, and representatives of the European Union.
The initiative marks a key milestone in the country’s ongoing digital transformation agenda. According to Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Olavo Correia, the effort reflects a broader vision to modernize public administration by placing data at the center of decision-making and improving the delivery of public services.
A central goal of the strategy is to shift government operations away from siloed systems toward a more integrated and coordinated approach. This would allow public institutions to better collect, organize, and utilize data across departments, improving efficiency and service delivery to citizens.
The government also emphasized that the future Artificial Intelligence framework will be designed to ensure responsible and ethical use of AI technologies. The intention is to apply AI in a way that serves the public interest, strengthens governance, and supports innovation in the public sector.
