CGAIZ annual conference heads to South Africa for 2026 edition

The Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe (CGAIZ) flagship annual conference is set to take place from 7 to 10 October 2026 at the Birchwood Hotel & Conference Centre in Boksburg, South Africa.

CGAIZ annual conference heads to South Africa for 2026 edition

Running under the theme “Better Governance, Better Future,” the conference will serve as a critical platform for shaping the governance and financial accountability landscape across Zimbabwe and the broader Southern African region.

Against a backdrop of evolving regulatory frameworks and increasing demands for corporate transparency, CGAIZ’s annual gathering arrives at a pivotal moment.

The conference will bring together company secretaries, accountants, board directors, legal advisors and public sector executives for a few days of intensive learning, networking and strategic dialogue.

“In a rapidly changing economic environment, good governance is not merely a compliance issue but the bedrock of sustainable growth and public trust,” explained Ms Tracy Mushonga, acting chief executive officer of CGAIZ.

“This year’s theme, ‘Better Governance, Better Future,’ is a call to action for every professional in our field. We must lead the charge in fostering ethical leadership, robust risk management and transparent reporting to secure a prosperous future for Zimbabwe and the continent.

“By meeting in South Africa, we are emphasising the cross-border nature of modern governance challenges. Our delegates will leave with actionable insights to implement in their own organisations, from the boardroom to the audit committee.

“We have curated a programme that balances thought leadership with practical skill-building. Every session is designed to empower our members to drive meaningful change in their organisations and communities,” she added.

Delegates will travel to South Africa next Wednesday (October 7), with opportunities for informal networking through activities at Eastrand Mall setting the stage for the formal proceedings.

The conference will commence the following day (October 8), with a welcome address by Ms Mushonga, followed by a presidential address from CGAIZ president Tendayi Kanjanda, who will speak on governance as a catalyst for economic recovery.

The guest of honour, Professor Mthuli Ncube, Minister of Finance and Investment Promotion of Zimbabwe, will underscore the role of governance and accountancy professionals as architects for economic development.

The day’s sessions will include a panel discussion on risk management and compliance in parastatals, a presentation on board governance in the digital era and insights on the future of work and talent development.

The second day of the conference will spotlight innovation, regulation and institutional excellence in a digital Africa. Sessions will cover sustainability reporting, governance codes, automation, AI, ESG, regulatory trends and leadership resilience.

The day will close with key takeaways, a formal dinner and delegates returning to Harare on Saturday with strengthened networks and fresh insights.

Ms Mushonga emphasised the conference’s role in shaping the profession’s future.

“From ESG to AI, from compliance to resilience, our sessions are designed to equip professionals with the foresight and adaptability needed in today’s fast‑changing environment. We are proud to convene thought leaders who will inspire and challenge us to raise the bar of governance excellence.

“This conference is not just about dialogue. It is about action. We want our members to leave with practical insights, stronger networks and renewed confidence to lead institutions that embody integrity accountability and sustainability,” Ms Mushonga added.
