*CNN anchor Abby Phillip is adding to her family. The veteran TV host announced via social media that she and her husband are expecting a baby boy this October – their second child, conceived through in vitro fertilization.
“Here he comes!” Phillip wrote in her post. “We are so excited to announce that Baby boy Richardson will be joining our family soon. Marcus, Naomi and I cannot wait to be a family of four.”
The announcement came with a personal reflection on the emotional weight of the fertility journey. Phillip was candid about the patience the process required.
“Throughout this process, I’ve really learned the power of trusting in God’s timing. It can be so hard when so want something so much — but you want it on your schedule,” she said. “Yet, everything happens for a reason. And i’m grateful that God chose this moment to answer our prayers.”
Phillip noted that her experience mirrors that of countless other families who have turned to IVF to build their families. The “NewsNight” host told PEOPLE that her daughter Naomi, 4, is “already preparing to be an excellent big sister.”
“Our journey to a second child looked a little different from our first. Like so many families, we were able to conceive with the help of IVF,” she continued. “In this moment, I’m both grateful that we were successful in God’s perfect timing and I’m also holding hope in my heart for all the families who are still waiting in their journey.”
In her Instagram post, Phillip reflected on what this chapter means to her personally, writing: “Every chapter in this motherhood journey has taught me that I can do so much more than I ever imagined — this one is no exception.”
The news arrives at a moment when IVF has taken on renewed political visibility. Earlier this month, President Trump administration put forward a proposal that would allow employers to offer standalone health insurance coverage for fertility treatments, USA Today reports.
The move builds on an executive order Trump signed in February 2025 directing the expansion of IVF access across the country. The White House stated at the time that Trump “promised to advance IVF and help American families with the associated costs so American families can have more babies.”
Trump has been outspoken on the issue, pointing to cost as a central barrier: “The IVF treatments are expensive. It’s very hard for many people to do it and to get it, but I’ve been in favor of IVF, right from the beginning.”
