By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Commissioner of Police Richard Rosado says his new minister has brought a perspective that challenges how the department approaches policing.
Julius Espat took over as interim Minister of Home Affairs on June 22.
Asked by 7 News what the past two months have been like, Rosado said each minister arrives with a different outlook.
“With any other minister, they come with different perspectives and their perspectives challenge our assumption of how we do policing,” he said. “It allows us to create better policing strategies in policing our communities.”
Rosado said Espat backs a combination of enforcement and social programmes.
“I do believe that our Minister supports a balanced approach where we have effective policing along with targeted social intervention programs,” the Commissioner said.
“Because we do believe that if we have a balanced approach, it will not only suppress crime today, but it will prevent crime from happening tomorrow.”
