The film centers on Wile E. Coyote as he shifts from relentless pursuit to seeking accountability.
Directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch, the project introduces a comedic courtroom twist to the long-running rivalry. The story follows the coyote after years of failed gadgets and mishaps, turning his attention toward the company responsible for his repeated setbacks.
According to the film’s logline, “After enduring years of catastrophic product failures at the hands of ACME, Inc., a tenacious, unemployed coyote uncovers a corporate cover-up and spearheads an unhinged battle against the multinational conglomerate that’s been blowing him up in the name of profit. Also, there’s a roadrunner. And dynamite.”
The trailer highlights the chaos that has defined the character’s past while setting up a new direction, with Wile E. Coyote taking legal action against ACME. In the film, he teams up with attorney Kevin Avery, played by Will Forte, as they face off against corporate lawyer Buddy Crane, portrayed by John Cena.
The cast also includes Lana Condor and Tone Bell, rounding out a mix of comedic and live-action performances alongside animated characters. The film draws inspiration from the 1990 New Yorker article “Coyote v. Acme” by Ian Frazier, expanding the concept into a feature-length story.
Produced by Chris DeFaria and James Gunn, the film blends classic cartoon elements with a modern narrative approach. The trailer emphasizes both the humor and the long history of mishaps that have defined the character’s journey.
“Coyote vs. Acme” is scheduled to arrive in U.S. theaters on August 28, 2026.
