Engagement Story

The story of Deaundre and Asia’s engagement is perhaps best told from Deaundre’s patient perspective, as Asia playfully admits to being a bit of a “brat” during the lead-up to the big moment. After Deaundre pivoted her morning plans for a surprise picnic, Asia spent the morning venting to her mother and best friend—both of whom were secretly in on the plan—about a frustrating last-minute pilates cancellation fee. She even resisted the elegant white dress Deaundre had personally selected for her, questioning the practicality of the color for an outdoor picnic, yet he remained undeterred in his quest for perfection.

Having been “faked out” by his previous grand romantic gestures, Asia was still caught completely off guard when they arrived at the Charlotte Botanical Garden. In a serene, private moment captured by a discreet photographer, Deaundre finally dropped to one knee, transforming a morning of humorous friction into a beautifully orchestrated “yes” that proved his devotion was worth every bit of the wait.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

A few of our family members have never traveled abroad, neither has Deaundre, so I’m very excited to share this experience with all of them. Our wedding is very intimate, just 40 close loved ones, so I can’t wait to enjoy the week with all of them in such a beautiful place. It’s no secret that the wedding planning is usually bride territory, so I kind of look at it as a surprise party for my man. I can’t wait to see his face when he sees all the fun things me and my mother-in-law have been cooking up together.
