The Golden Lions Youth Rugby Union programme focuses on building stronger foundations for young athletes through sport, education and structured rugby development.
Johannesburg, South Africa (12 May 2026) – For young rugby players in Johannesburg, the action isn’t just happening on the field. It’s also happening off it, where the Golden Lions Youth Rugby Union has kicked off its 2026 sponsorship drive to grow the next wave of talent.
It’s a call to businesses, brands, and partners to get involved in a system that’s already busy shaping school players into structured, disciplined and opportunity-ready athletes through rugby.
This program looks to give young players proper coaching, access to training facilities, nutrition support and real tournament exposure.
As the union gears up for an expanded 2026 season, the focus is on growing the pipeline even further, while opening the door for sponsors who want to be part of that journey.
Heather Dolley, Chairperson of Golden Lions Youth Rugby, says the idea is simple: sport as a platform for growth, not just results.
“Supporting youth rugby is about far more than sport. It is an investment in talent, passion, teamwork, leadership, and community upliftment. Every sponsorship directly contributes to helping young athletes realise their dreams and build brighter futures.”

The 2026 sponsorship programme includes different partnership options, allowing organisations to align with youth development, grassroots sport, and community impact. The initiative is about keeping doors open for young players who have the ability, but not always the resources, to progress in the game.
And with more talent coming through each year, the Golden Lions Youth Rugby Union is looking to make sure the next generation doesn’t just play rugby, but gets a real shot at growing through it.
