Govt calls for transparency to maximise mineral wealth

MWANZA: THE government has challenged investors, miners, and other stakeholders in the country’s mining industry to embrace transparency, integrity, and accountability to ensure the country’s mineral wealth delivers greater benefits to citizens.

Commissioner for Minerals Dr Abdulrahman Mwanga said stronger cooperation across the sector was essential to creating jobs, transferring skills and technology, and expanding opportunities for Tanzanians along the mineral value chain.

The Commissioner made the call during the closing of the Fifth Local Content Compliance Forum (LCCF 2026) in Mwanza.

Dr Mwanga explained that the government would continue strengthening the management of the mining sector while promoting greater participation of Tanzanians in mining operations and related services.

According to him, effective collaboration among investors, miners, private institutions, and citizens would enable more Tanzanians to access skills, capital, and business opportunities, ultimately increasing the sector’s contribution to the national economy.

“The government is committed to ensuring that all productive proposals are considered to increase efficiency, transparency, and competition in the mining sector,” Dr Mwanga noted.

He further said that the Ministry of Minerals was also reviewing proposals from stakeholders to address challenges and strengthen the sector’s performance.

“The government,” he added, “would maintain a favourable investment environment while ensuring that mineral resources contribute more significantly to economic growth and improve people’s welfare.”

Furthermore, Dr Mwanga said the mining industry remains a key pillar of Tanzania’s economy, with effective management of mineral resources expected to increase its contribution to national income and government revenue while expanding economic opportunities for citizens.
