The Government of Guyana has officially launched “Eldorado Reimagined,” the country’s new national gold and jewellery brand, in what officials are calling a major step toward transforming the nation’s gold industry from raw exports to value-added manufacturing.
The initiative was launched on May 22 as part of celebrations marking Guyana’s 60th Independence anniversary and included the unveiling of the country’s first-ever locally minted Independence commemorative gold medallion.
According to the government, the medallion was produced entirely in Guyana by Guyanese workers using 100 percent locally sourced gold.
The launch event brought together government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the mining and jewellery industries, and private sector stakeholders.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mohamed Irfaan Ali described the initiative as a defining moment in the country’s economic and cultural development.
“Tonight represents more than the launch of a brand. It represents Guyana taking ownership of its story, its resources, and its future,” President Ali said.
“For generations, our gold largely left these shores as a raw commodity. Today, we are demonstrating to the world that Guyana is capable of refining, manufacturing, and exporting excellence.”
Ali said the launch of “Eldorado Reimagined” reflects Guyana’s ambition to position itself as an internationally recognised hub for high-quality gold products and jewellery manufacturing.
“This initiative is about creating value within Guyana, expanding opportunities for our people, supporting local craftsmanship, and building an internationally respected Guyanese gold identity,” he added.
Vickram Bharrat said the project signals a new chapter for the country’s gold industry.
“Eldorado Reimagined is the result of a deliberate national vision to move Guyana beyond extraction and into value creation,” Bharrat said. “This brand represents quality, authenticity and national pride.”
He also highlighted the symbolic importance of the commemorative medallion.
“This medallion is not simply a collectible. It is a symbol of Guyana’s progress and advancements in the sector,” the minister said.
According to the government, the limited-edition medallion was struck in one troy ounce of .999 fine gold and created specifically to commemorate Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Each medallion carries an individual serial number.
The launch also featured a jewellery exhibition showcasing work by local jewellers and manufacturers in partnership with the Guyana Jewellers Association.
Vice Chairman Vead Persaud described the collaboration as an important opportunity for the local jewellery sector.
“The Guyana Jewellers Association is proud to partner in this historic launch and to support the continued development of a stronger, more structured, and internationally competitive jewellery sector,” Persaud said.
The exhibition additionally featured participation from the Guyana Mining School, highlighting emerging talent in jewellery craftsmanship and technical development.
Officials said the broader goal of “Eldorado Reimagined” is to help establish a modern, regulated, and globally competitive gold and jewellery industry capable of generating increased economic value, investment, employment, and international recognition for Guyanese-made products.
