Hunter Gilmore Is Turning Pain Into Power—And Forcing Campuses to Face the Truth About Dating Safety

At a time when dating violence and sexual assault continue to cast a shadow over college life, Hunter Gilmore is refusing to let silence win. Armed with over a decade of media experience and an unwavering commitment to truth, Gilmore is using her platform Hunting 4 Answers to amplify the stories too often ignored—particularly those involving missing and murdered Black women and girls. What began as a powerful podcast has evolved into a nationwide movement, bringing urgent conversations about relationship safety, manipulation, and awareness directly to the spaces that need them most. From its impactful kickoff at Clark Atlanta University to its continued momentum across campuses, Gilmore is not just reporting stories—she’s reshaping how they are heard, understood, and acted upon.

MO CLARK: Your platform Hunting 4 Answers tackles deeply sensitive and often overlooked cases. What was the defining moment that pushed you to turn awareness into action through both your podcast and campus tour?

HUNTER GILMORE: Hunting 4 Answers was initially created as a way to shed light on the silent epidemic of missing and murdered Black women and girls. There’s a major disparity in media coverage involving these cases, and it’s not talked about or addressed nearly enough.

We’ve now highlighted over 300 stories on the show, and as I continued covering more cases, I began to see a pattern emerge. I realized that many of these tragedies often begin with the people who enter our lives, whether that’s a romantic partner, a friend, or even someone we encounter in passing.

Learning to navigate these different dynamics can be challenging, and it’s important to have the right tools to feel prepared in real-life situations. The campus tour is aimed at filling that gap and creating an open space for dialogue around relational awareness, dating literacy, and campus safety. Our goal is to empower students and their peers to take a more proactive role in promoting safer campuses and communities.

MO CLARK: With statistics showing how prevalent sexual assault and coercion are on college campuses, how do you approach educating young women in a way that empowers them without instilling fear?

HUNTER GILMORE: I always approach these conversations from a grounded and open place. I want young women and men to have the knowledge and resources they need to make the best possible decisions for themselves.

The therapists and experts we bring onto the panels play a big role in creating a warm, safe, and action-oriented environment. The goal is not to instill fear, but to encourage students to think more intentionally about their safety and well-being while also feeling supported and empowered in those conversations.

MO CLARK: The Hunting 4 Answers Tour brings real conversations about dating safety directly to students. What has been the most eye-opening or impactful response you’ve received from attendees so far?

HUNTER GILMORE: One of the most eye-opening moments came during an early session when one of our experts asked students if their parents had ever had open conversations with them about how to navigate healthy relationships growing up. Not a single hand went up.

That was striking. It really highlighted how big the gap is and how much opportunity there is to provide students with the guidance and answers they need when it comes to relationships and dating safety.

Another moment that stands out is when I ask students at the start of each session if they’ve ever heard the term “relational awareness.” Very few have. The tour has really become a way to introduce new perspectives and give students practical tools for what it means to be relationally aware and how to apply it in their everyday lives.

MO CLARK: Your work specifically highlights missing and murdered Black women and girls—stories that have historically been underreported. Why is it critical to center these narratives, and how do you ensure they’re handled with both care and urgency?

HUNTER GILMORE: It’s critical to center these narratives because the numbers tell a harrowing story. Cases involving missing and murdered Black women and girls account for a disproportionate percentage, yet many of these cases do not receive mainstream attention.

These are real people with real families and communities. Their stories deserve to be told, and their loved ones deserve answers and, ultimately, closure.

I approach each story with care and urgency by keeping the focus on the person at the center of it. It is about honoring who they are while also maintaining attention on the need for answers, accountability, and justice.

MO CLARK: As both a journalist and podcast host, you’re not just telling stories—you’re creating a movement. What lasting change do you hope your work sparks on college campuses and within the culture at large?

HUNTER GILMORE: The lasting change I hope to see is a shift in how we think about awareness, both in our relationships and in our everyday environments.

I believe relational awareness and dating literacy are essential life skills for everyone, not just students. It is about feeling prepared to navigate relationships, understanding boundaries, and ultimately feeling empowered to make safe, informed decisions.

If this work helps people move through the world with a greater sense of awareness, confidence, and responsibility for themselves and those around them, then that is the impact I hope it continues to have.

With each stop on the Hunting 4 Answers Tour, including its latest panel at Agnes Scott College alongside licensed therapist Adelia Johnson, Hunter Gilmore is building more than awareness—she’s building protection, empowerment, and accountability. Her work challenges institutions, educates students, and gives voice to those who have long been overlooked. In an era where awareness can mean survival, Gilmore stands at the forefront, transforming journalism into a life-saving force and proving that storytelling, when done with purpose, can spark real and lasting change.
