*When Architectural Digest came calling, Keke Palmer did not just open her front door. She offered a window into the philosophy behind how she lives. The Los Angeles home the actress shares with her son, her two sisters, and their children turned out to be as deliberate and layered as everything else she puts her name on.
“My house is kind of like Full House,” she told the magazine, comparing her residence to the ’90s family sitcom. “Except instead of three uncles, we’ve got three aunts. I wanted it to have that kind of vibe, but to be luxury, too. The value supports the people in it,” the “I Love Boosters” star said.
“It was really about making the place feel calming, supportive, and homey,” she added.
Designers Michele Booth of Rylston Road Interiors and Anna Viola took that directive and ran with it, completing the project in eight months. Booth spoke to how thoroughly the space captures its owner. “I think at the end of the day, this home is a reflection of Keke. It’s grounded, expressive, and effortlessly warm,” she said. “Our goal was to create a space that feels as dynamic and layered as she is, while still being a sanctuary where she can fully relax with her friends and her family.”
In Palmer’s primary bedroom suite, she incorporated her interest in Pilates by placing a reformer directly in the space. She refers to the adjoining bathroom as her “take on a boudoir,” and it includes a walk-in shower, bathtub, and extensive storage areas. Her son Leo’s bedroom is styled with jungle-themed wallpaper and includes a basketball hoop.
The conversation with Architectural Digest also ventured into territory beyond throw pillows and paint swatches. Asked whether her work with filmmaker Boots Riley, a vocal critic of capitalism, had shifted her thinking on material possessions, Palmer said, “I think I’ve always had a very realistic relationship with consumerism. Meaning that I like things, and I like getting things, but I never felt like having things was an explanation of my value,” she said. “I never externalized, which I think is the problem sometimes: not that you just want things, but you feel like you need these things to make you feel like you, to make you feel like you’re worth something”
