Kenya Pushes AI and Robotics Education Through National Youth Innovation Initiative

The Communications Authority of Kenya,  in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union,  the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy,  and the Ministry of Education,  has stepped up efforts to promote Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics innovation among young people in Kenya.

The initiative was highlighted during a joint innovation exhibition and workshop held at the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) in Karen. The event brought together learners from selected schools across the country to showcase and develop AI-driven and robotics-based solutions aimed at addressing real-world challenges.

According to the Communications Authority of Kenya, the partnership is designed to equip students and young innovators with digital skills needed for a future technology-driven economy. Through innovation hubs, robotics competitions, training programs, and mentorship initiatives, learners are being encouraged to build practical solutions using emerging technologies such as AI and automation.

The Authority emphasized the role of innovation in driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and positioning Kenya as a regional leader in digital transformation. It also noted that the initiative aims to bridge the digital divide by expanding access to modern technology and learning resources for students across the country.

In addition, the Authority conducted awareness sessions on Child Online Protection, aimed at educating students, parents, and teachers on safe internet usage and protecting learners from harmful online content.

The initiative reflects Kenya’s broader ambition to nurture local tech talent and strengthen its position as a regional and global hub for digital innovation.
