Kidnapped Bulawayo toddler found unharmed after tip-off leads police to suspect

A two-year-old girl, Asanda Ndlovu, who was kidnapped in Bulawayo on Tuesday, has been found safe following a tip-off that led police to a flat in the city.

The toddler was abducted at Meikles Mall, where her mother works as a shopkeeper, while she was attending to a customer.

After an intense search and public appeals, the child was located unharmed at a flat in Bulawayo on Thursday morning.

Authorities said the breakthrough came after a tip-off was made to a security company that installs closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems. The information helped establish the location of the woman believed to be responsible for the kidnapping, leading to a police raid.

“The informer said she suspected the toddler was somewhere at a flat but wanted to get a closer view of the CCTV footage. We showed the informant clearer footage, and she confirmed that it was her she had seen.

“We immediately contacted CID Homicide, who sprang to action and drove to the flat and true to the informant, the toddler was found,” said one of the technicians.

Police are expected to release further details on the arrest and the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
