Kings welcomed home for local CPL leg

The Saint Lucia Kings are back in Saint Lucia for the local matches of this year’s Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League. They were welcomed with a cocktail reception at the Kimchi and Callaloo Restaurant at Sapphire Sands Villas by Bay Gardens Resorts.​

Players, officials, and media members came together to welcome the home franchise. Former Kings captain and current head coach Daren Sammy introduced this year’s squad. He pointed out that even though the team is diverse, their passion for cricket matches the Saint Lucian spirit.​

“It’s always good to be back home. Saint Lucia is a place where people love to travel. And I think Saint Lucia Kings have a part to play in, you know, showcasing Saint Lucia to the world,” he said.​

“CPL is a tournament that goes to over 1 billion viewers, and Saint Lucia Kings, the way we play,  the excitement we bring,  people love to watch us, and we have a team of  players that… when they wear that blue, they bleed Saint Lucian spirit.”​

Louis Lewis, CEO of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, also attended. He spoke about the commercial value the Kings bring to Saint Lucia and gave the team his full support for the upcoming season.​

“I’m already looking forward to September when I’ll be going across to Barbados to see the finals. But I want you to make it real for me so that we can get there,” Lewis said.
