*HBO has unveiled a teaser for “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness,” a new limited comedy series created with Larry David and produced through Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground banner, Deadline reports.
The preview begins with Barack delivering a joke about collaborating with the longtime comedian and writer. “I have sat across the table from some of the world’s most intractable leaders and wrestled with some of the globe’s most intractable problems. Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David.”
The network’s description suggests the original patriotic concept took an unexpected turn when Larry David got involved, as the logline states: “President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honor America’s 250th anniversary and celebrate the unique history of our nation on this special occasion. …But then Larry David called.”
HBO says the project was developed as part of an effort to recognize the nation’s 250th anniversary and highlight elements of American history. Every episode is structured around four individual comedic segments tied to events and figures from the past. Several notable actors are attached to the project, including Bill Hader, Kathryn Hahn, Jon Hamm, and Sean Hayes. Obama will also make an on-screen appearance in one of the sketches during the season.
Additional performers connected to “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” such as Susie Essman and Vince Vaughn, are also expected to appear throughout the series. The seven-episode series is written by David and Jeff Schaffer, with Schaffer directing.
“Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness” will premiere June 26 at 9 p.m. on HBO and HBO Max, with new episodes arriving weekly until the August 7 finale.
