Legacy Sessions Celebrates A&B’s Musical Legends

Rain failed to dampen the spirit of the Legacy Sessions on Saturday night, as musicians and music lovers gathered for an evening celebrating Antigua and Barbuda’s musical heritage while raising funds for the St. John Hospice.
The showers ended just in time for show time at Pink Mongoose Studios for a night of performances honouring some of the nation’s musical legends.
The evening featured Jevonte Chatham, Essence the Band and Kenne Blessin, backed by Kuttin Eddge, along with visiting jazz musicians from the United States who joined McCoy as his musical “Friends”.
McCoy described the evening as a success and thanked patrons for supporting the event despite the uncertain weather.
“I would like to thank everyone who came out to Legacy Sessions at the Pink Mongoose Studios. We are really grateful that the weather cooperated,” McCoy said.
“The vibes were electric and the music was exceptional. The audience was receptive; they really enjoyed the music.”
McCoy also expressed gratitude to the event’s partners, musicians and sponsors for helping to make the evening possible.
He said organisers are hopeful that, once the final accounting is completed, a sizeable cheque will be presented to the St. John Hospice from the proceeds of this year’s event.
The Legacy Sessions evolved from A Night for Statchel, an event founded by Vince Kazi McCoy in 2019.
The original event was created to honour Statchel Edwards, an acclaimed Antiguan and Barbudan musician, mentor and cultural contributor whose influence helped inspire generations of artists.
What began as a tribute to one legendary musician has since developed into a broader celebration of the artists who have contributed to Antigua and Barbuda’s musical identity.
