A man convicted of rape has been sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment by the Tzaneen Regional Court in Limpopo.
The 42-year-old man raped a family friend and neighbour in August last year after threatening her with a knife.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Mashudu Malabi says the sentence will serve as a deterrent.
Malabi says, “The Tzaneen regional court has sentenced a 42-year-old man from Morutji Village to 15 years’ direct imprisonment after he pleaded guilty of raping a 34-year-old female friend. The court heard that the offence happened in August 2025 when he entered the home at night and threatened her with a knife and raped her. The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.”
