Lizzo Announces New Album ‘Bitch’ About ‘Reclaiming’ the Derogatory Term: ‘It Was Only Fitting’

It’s been nine years since Lizzo dropped breakout hit “Truth Hurts,” but she’s still 100% “that b—h” — and now, she’s coming out with a whole album on the concept.

On Monday (April 27) — the same day she turned 38 — the hitmaker revealed that her next album is titled Bitch, and it’s set to drop on June 5. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!” she wrote on Instagram, unveiling the project’s cheeky artwork. “Wanna get me a gift? Pre-order my album baby!!!!”

The cover shows Lizzo’s right hand flipping the bird, but with a miniature version of the Grammy winner standing where the middle finger should be. Ahead of the LP, title track “Bitch” will arrive on Friday (May 1).

Bitch marks Lizzo’s first album since 2022’s Special, and her first collection of songs since 2025 mixtape My Face Hurts From Smiling. “Reclaiming the word ‘b—h’ is power,” she said in a statement about the new project. “It’s taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence and unapologetic self-love.”

“So many incredible women in music have used the word for positivity like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliott,” she continued. “It was only fitting to name my album Bitch because it has become my favorite word when using it on my own terms, and because I am 100% that b—h!”

So far, Lizzo has given fans only one song from Bitch: lead single “Don’t Make Me Love U,” which dropped on March 20. The album’s Spotify preview page shows that it has 12 tracks total, including titles “A Toast,” “Happy 2 Be,” “She Stole My Man,” “Whose Hair Is This,” “Little Black Cat,” “Sexy Ladies, “That Grrrl,” “Too Nice,” “Like a Crime” and “Goodmorning!”

The Yitty founder had originally planned on following up Special with an album called Love in Real Life, but after dropping singles “Still Bad” and “Love in Real Life” last year, she announced that she’d shelved the project. “It just wasn’t what I was feeling right now,” she told Vulture in September. “I was like, ‘I need to do s–t differently, and I don’t know what it is, but I’m going to just start following my instincts.’”
