A major fire was still raging Friday afternoon at XPZ Supermarket on Sir Sydney Walling Highway, sending thick black smoke over the area as firefighters continued efforts to bring the blaze under control.
Videos and photographs provided to The Daily Observer show flames engulfing sections of the building as fire crews direct water onto the structure. Reports indicate that the supermarket has been destroyed, although the full extent of the damage has not been officially confirmed.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities have not confirmed whether anyone was injured.
The loss comes less than two years after XPZ reopened in October 2024. Its previous building was destroyed by arson in June 2021. There is no established connection between that incident and Friday’s blaze.
