A 55-year-old Gros Islet man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving in connection with a fatal collision on the Dennery-Vieux Fort Highway last year that left cricket coach Junior Derose dead.
Police said Francis St Claire, of Grande Riviere, Gros Islet, was formally charged on Monday morning after investigations into the crash that claimed the life of Derose, a 38-year-old Micoud resident and coach at the Saint Lucia Cricket High Performance Centre.
St Claire appeared in court and was granted bail of $10 000.
According to police, the collision involving two vehicles occurred at about 6:50 p.m. on October 19, 2025. Derose was injured and taken to St Jude Hospital for medical attention. However, he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
