Ministries of Economic Transformation and Agriculture welcome United Nations Development Programme representatives

By Zoila Palma:  On July 16, 2026, Osmond Martinez, Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Transformation and Alex Balona, Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries, Dr. Marcelino Avila, Senior Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister, Carlos Pol, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Economic Transformation, and technical staff from the Ministry of Economic Transformation and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries, welcomed representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the Article 55 Scoping Mission to Belize, being held from 16–17 July 2026.

Discussions included long-term development planning and identify medium-term development priorities that can feed into the government’s vision to accelerate inclusive economic growth, strengthen resilience, and improve quality of life.

Through collaboration with key ministries and stakeholders, the mission will explore priority areas for future partnership under UNDP’s Article 55 Initiative, which promotes integrated approaches to sustainable development by connecting economic transformation, governance, financing, climate action, and institutional strengthening.

The Ministry of Economic Transformation says that it remains committed to working with national and international partners to advance Belize’s sustainable development agenda and deliver meaningful results for the people of Belize.
