Mirra Andreeva wins first Grand Slam title at French Open
Mirra Andreeva is a first-time Grand Slam champion.
Nineteen-year old Mirra Andreeva is a first-time Grand Slam champion. The eighth seed beat Polish qualifier, Maja Chwalinska, 6-3, 6-2 in the women’s final of the French Open in Paris.
Andreeva’s previous best at a grand slam was the quarter-finals of Wimbledon last year.
Chwalinska meanwhile, has become the first women’s qualifier ever to reach the final in Paris. Thanks to the win, Andreeva will move up two places to number six when the world rankings are updated, on Monday.
Chwalinska, however, will move from number 113, into the top 20.
