MobileMoney Fintech Limited (MMFL) has launched the Ride with Momo to onboard transport operators onto the MTN MoMo Merchant platform.

The initiative is aimed at reducing the challenges associated with cash transactions and improving financial inclusion for drivers.

The initiative launched in partnership with the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS), seeks to provide drivers with a seamless and secure digital payment system through the use of the Ghana Quick Response (GHQR) code.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MobileMoney Fintech Limited, Shaibu Haruna, said the campaign was designed to solve the everyday challenges faced by commercial drivers, including searching for change, safeguarding cash, and handling counterfeit notes.

He said the campaign would encourage drivers to register for MTN Merchant wallets and use the Ghana QR (GHQR) payment platform, allowing passengers to pay seamlessly by scanning a QR code with any GHQR-enabled banking or mobile payment application.

Mr Haruna noted that the digital platform would help drivers separate personal and business finances, maintain transaction records, and build digital financial footprints that could improve their access to business loans.

The CEO added that drivers who sign up and leverage on the portal would benefit from monthly rewards and incentives, while top-performing users would receive additional prizes.

He said MobileMoney Fintech Limited, in partnership with GhIPSS, was committed to building a secure and efficient digital payment ecosystem to support the growth of Ghana’s transport industry.

The Chief Business Officer of GhIPSS, Akosua Blay, said the campaign, powered by the Ghana QR (GHQR) payment solution, would enable drivers to receive payments from mobile money users, banks, savings and loans institutions, and other GHQR-enabled platforms.

She said that although the current focus of the campaign was on Pragya drivers and the transport sector, the initiative should be expanded to other industries to deepen Ghana’s transition to a cash-lite economy.

The Chief Business Officer of GhIPSS commended MMFL for its continued collaboration in advancing digital payments in Ghana and assured the company of the institution’s support in future initiatives.
