Nandi-Ndaitwah, Ramaphosa reaffirm Namibia-SA bond

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and South African president Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday reaffirmed the strong and historic ties between Namibia and South Africa during bilateral talks held in Johannesburg.

The meeting formed part of Nandi-Ndaitwah’s working visit to South Africa and focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation while addressing regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Nandi-Ndaitwah said the relationship between Namibia and South Africa remains firmly rooted in a shared liberation history and continues to flourish through political, economic and social cooperation.

“Namibia and South Africa enjoy a special relationship built on solidarity, mutual respect and a common vision for the prosperity of our people. We remain committed to deepening this partnership for the benefit of future generations,” she said.

The two leaders acknowledged the important role played by the Namibia-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in advancing bilateral cooperation and ensuring the implementation of agreed programmes.

Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that the two countries have established a strong framework for collaboration through more than 150 agreements covering sectors such as trade, defence, education, infrastructure, energy and diplomacy.

“Our cooperation continues to expand across strategic sectors. Through the BNC and other platforms, we are creating opportunities that will contribute to economic growth, regional integration and sustainable development,” she added.

The leaders exchanged views on regional, continental and global developments and reiterated their commitment to working together within regional bodies such as the Southern African Development Community and the Southern African Customs Union.

“As neighbours and partners, we will continue to champion peace, stability and economic cooperation in the region while strengthening the bonds between our two nations,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
