ODIN Keeps Helping Animals Despite Having Less Than R30 Left

The animal rescue organisation continued transporting dogs for sterilisations and caring for vulnerable animals despite severe financial strain.

George, South Africa (08 May 2026) – Even with less than R30 left in their account, animal rescue organisation Oudtshoorn Dogs in Need (ODIN) continued showing up for vulnerable animals. Proving that sometimes even the smallest victories can make a life-changing difference.

After buying a bag of mealie meal on Monday morning, the team was left with just R26.97, yet their work across the district did not stop. Staff still made their way to the sanctuary, while the outreach team continued transporting dogs for sterilisations at Kango Dierekliniek.

Although ODIN says its veterinary account is currently frozen and funds are under severe pressure, the organisation still managed to secure sterilisations for three dogs they believe desperately needed help.

For the team, those three dogs represented far more than just numbers. One of them was Jessica from Smartie Town, an older street dog who has endured litter after litter over the years with little support or care.

The team said they knew another winter pregnancy could place even more strain on her already difficult life. Another was Oya from Black Joint, a three-legged dog who previously underwent surgery after suffering a serious injury.

During her recovery, ODIN stepped in to care for her puppies while she healed. ODIN says it continues fighting for the remaining puppies while also caring for the surviving dogs and helping them find homes.

One puppy recently found a new family in Stilbaai following a pop-up adoption event, while two black female puppies are still waiting for permanent homes.

The third sterilisation involved Dinie, another dog the organisation says has produced litter after litter while the pressure on rescue resources continues growing.

ODIN says seven of Dinie’s puppies are still looking for homes, although two recently found families through another adoption drive.

The team says support from the public remains critical as they continue trying to help animals across the region despite mounting financial challenges.

Anyone wanting to assist ODIN, support their rescue efforts or enquire about adoptions can contact the organisation on 072 084 1374.
