Official Trailer: Ramla Ali’s ‘In The Shadows’ Starring Jasmine Jobson

The official trailer has landed for In The Shadows, the new film inspired by the remarkable story of Somali-British boxer Ramla Ali, with Jasmine Jobson taking on the lead role.

Directed by double Emmy and triple BAFTA-winning filmmaker Anthony Wonke, In The Shadows follows Ali’s journey from a young Somali refugee to becoming the first Somali-British boxing champion, all while initially keeping her boxing ambitions hidden from her family.

But this isn’t simply a boxing story. At its heart, In The Shadows explores identity, belonging, family, faith and the determination it takes to carve out a future that may look very different from the one imagined for you.

Jobson, who won a BAFTA for her performance as Jaq in Top Boy, stars as Ali, with Peaky Blinders actor Finn Cole playing her husband Richard Moore and Get Millie Black and Andor actor Gershwyn Eustache Jnr appearing as her coach, Clinton.

The wider cast includes Hodan Yusuf, newcomer Suhayla Ahmed, Roda Asha Aden, Mustafa Aden, Moe Hashim and Samater Ahmed as members of Ali’s Somali family.

Ali would go on to make further history as the first boxer to represent Somalia at the Olympic Games and the first athlete outside of track and field to represent the country at the Games.

The film marks the latest feature from Wonke, whose previous work includes The Accidental Spy, Dettori, The Director and the Jedi, Ronaldo, Being AP and Unmasking Jihadi John: Anatomy of a Terrorist.

Written by Ursula Rani Sarma, In The Shadows is produced by BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated producer Lee Magiday for Sleeper Films and Madeleine Sanderson for Affine Films. Ramla Ali also serves as an executive producer alongside her husband, Richard Moore.
Before arriving in UK cinemas, In The Shadows will make its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on Friday 9th October.

In The Shadows will be released in UK cinemas on 30th October 2026.
