One Month Later! Happy News About Rosie and Family

A single mom was evicted in the middle of the night and showed up at OSAOK’s gate with two frightened kids. A lot of good has happened in the four weeks following! Here’s the update we’ve all stayed hopeful for…

Johannesburg, South Africa (10 May 2026) – About a month ago, we shared Rosie and her family’s story. She is a single mom who has had to navigate life after a stroke, which left her with lasting effects on her mobility. She has done her best raising two kids alone, but her condition has made it difficult to earn a steady income.

When her daughter’s matric dance came around in March, Rosie wanted to give her a special night, but she couldn’t cover everything on her own. So she humbled herself, and asked her Randburg community for help. People showed up for them.

Days later, the bottom fell out again when Rosie and her children were evicted in the middle of the night. She arrived at the gate of One Small Act of Kindness (OSAOK) with a truck full of belongings and two scared kids at her side.

OSAOK couldn’t take them in, they didn’t have the space to do so, but they put out a call to their community as quickly as they could. Once again, kindness made itself known and remarkably by the next day, the family had a roof over their heads, food in the cupboard, and a small fund to start fresh.

This week, another update has been shared.

Thanks to the charity’s community rallying around them, Rosie and her children are now settled in their own space. Her SASSA application has been approved, and she’s picked up clients and is growing her business from home. The kids are back at school and thriving.

Rosie shared the following update with OSAOK:

“Hi Kelly,

It’s been a full month since I came to OSAOK one midnight seeking help. After everything my children and I received from you and the OSAOK army, I’m so happy to say we are now settled in our new room/home.

From helping with budget advice and being strict but loving.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the love and kindness you have shown us. From being evicted at midnight, to sleeping in police stations, to having a fresh start. It means more than words can say.

My admin services business is growing, and I’m now getting clients on monthly retainers. We won’t be suffering going forward, and that is because of the hand up we received.
I truly can’t thank you enough. May Abba Father richly bless every single person who played a part in helping us.

I am more than grateful.”

As said by Kelly-Ann, the hero who runs One Small Act of Kindness, sometimes a hand up is all you need.
