The Afro-fusion star continues her global rise with Spotify EQUAL recognition
Ghanaian singer and songwriter MOLIY has been named Spotify’s EQUAL Africa artist of the month for January 2026, and features on the cover of the EQUAL Global playlist.
Ghanaian singer and songwriter MOLIY has been named Spotify’s EQUAL Africa Artist of the Month for January 2026 and features on the cover of the EQUAL Global playlist. The recognition highlights her growing influence in Africa’s music scene and her expanding international profile.
Known for her hypnotic blend of Afro-pop, Afro-fusion, and dancehall, MOLIY’s sound is playful yet intentional, soft yet powerful. Her music lives at the intersection of emotion and movement, earning her a rapidly growing global audience.
Born and raised in Ghana, MOLIY’s journey into music evolved from curiosity into a calling. Raised on the sounds of Ghanaian legends like Daddy Lumba, Rex Omar, R2Bees, and 4×4, alongside fearless female voices such as Ebony, Eazzy, Itz Tiffany, and Sister Deborah, she was shaped by artists who championed confidence, freedom, and individuality.
MOLIY gained wider recognition in December 2024 with the release of her single ‘Shake It To The Max (FLY)’, which went viral internationally. The track contributed to her position as the most-exported Ghanaian artist on Spotify Wrapped 2025, signalling her growing global reach.
Beyond the music, MOLIY represents a shift in how African women are seen and heard. Her visuals, performances, and personal brand inspire young women to take up space boldly.
“MOLIY sits comfortably at the intersection of African pop and global culture,” said Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa . “Her music reflects a generation that’s fluid, expressive, and unbound by borders, making her a powerful voice within EQUAL Africa.”
The 24-year-old superstar also commented on her inclusion in Spotify’s EQUAL initiative: “Being a woman in this industry has taught me to trust my voice even when the room is loud“, she stated. “There’s real power in women supporting women. EQUAL represents visibility, support and opportunity and I’m grateful to be part of it.”
Spotify’s EQUAL programme supports female artists by providing a global platform through playlists, original content, and the EQUAL hub. The initiative has added more than 6,900 female artists to the EQUAL playlist and supported over 1,000 ambassadors in their home countries. Through EQUAL, Spotify aims to inspire change and promote a more inclusive global music landscape.
Launched in April 2021, EQUAL Africa is a key component of Spotify’s EQUAL Hub, aimed at promoting gender equity in the global music industry through curated playlists, specialised content hubs, and collaborative efforts. Over the years, the initiative has shone the spotlight on African artistes such as Yemi Alade, Ayra Starr, Aṣa, Fave, Gyakie, Brazy, Njerae, Somi, Amaarae and Nissi.
