YET another cabin crew member of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has reportedly gone missing in Canada – the third such case reported to the airline this year.
Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper said the missing crew member was scheduled to board a PIA flight from Toronto to Lahore on November 19, but failed to turn up. He had comer to Toronto from Lahore in Pakistan on November 16.
“Departmental action will be initiated against the flight steward in case of illegal disappearance and the matter is being investigated,” a PIA spokesman said.
Back in March 2024, two PIA stewards went missing the same week. Dawn reported at the time that three cabin crew members had gone missing after arriving in Canada that year.
In 2023, at least seven PIA cabin crew members had gone missing in Canada while performing flight duties.
Officials said this trend of disappearing in Canada was because of this country’s lenient asylum law.
According to the national carrier’s spokesman, one of the crew members who had slipped away while on duty some years earlier had settled in Canada and was “advising” other crew members mulling asylum, Dawn reported.
