A party host was arrested by police on Friday evening after an illegal firearm was allegedly discovered in his possession during an operation in Agard.
The incident has since gone viral on social media, with videos circulating online showing officers taking the suspect into custody while several individuals at the scene can be heard questioning police and asking whether they had a warrant.
Saint Lucia Daily Post has been informed that police officers were dispatched to the community following reports of gunfire allegedly emanating from a party being held in the area.
Residents who spoke to Saint Lucia Daily Post welcomed the police action, claiming that gunshots have frequently been discharged during events in the community.
“It’s about time these guys are arrested because they always bursting gunshots in the area and that is unfair and unsafe for the other members of the community,” one resident said on condition of anonymity.
According to an eyewitness, officers arrived at the location and approached the suspect, who allegedly attempted to flee into his house with a firearm in his crouch area.
The witness further claimed that officers pursued the individual and subsequently took him into custody.
Videos of the incident show a tense exchange between patrons and law enforcement officers as the arrest unfolded.
The police press office confirmed the arrest and noted investigations are ongoing.
