By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating a double murder in San Pedro after gunmen opened fire inside Island Supermarket on Sunday night and have confirmed that several suspects have been detained and nothing was stolen during the incident.
Police say officers responded to the shooting at Island Supermarket, where they found the motionless bodies of two men, identified as Daniel Jones and David Harmouch. Two other men, identified by police as Ayman Harmouch and Ahmad Harmouch, were later found at a clinic suffering from gunshot injuries.
Initial investigations indicate that all four men were at the supermarket when four armed men arrived and fired several shots in their direction. The gunmen then reportedly ran across the street and boarded a vessel that headed south of the island.
Police confirmed that nothing was stolen from the supermarket. Several persons are in custody and investigators are reviewing surveillance footage as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police are also looking at several possible angles, including civil land disputes involving one of the victims. Authorities have not confirmed whether the shooting is connected to a previous arson at Island Supermarket. The business had reportedly reopened just days ago after being damaged by fire in December 2025.
