By Zoila Palma: Since the beginning of the year 2026, the Belize Police Department (BPD) has seized 116 illegal firearms across Belize.
ASP Stacy Smith says that this week, countrywide anti-drugs and anti-weapons operations were conducted by the various specialized units of the police department as well as the different formations.
“As a consequence of these operations, a total of 10 firearms consisting of 5 9mm caliber pistol, 1 .22 caliber pistol, 3 .38 revolver and one AR 15 rifle were seized.
This week’s seizure brings the total amount of weapons and ammunition seized by the department since the beginning of the year to 116 firearms of different calibers, 374 rounds of ammunition and the number of persons arrested for firearm ammunition related offenses to 109,” Smith said.
