Prime Minister and Honduran President discuss strengthening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation

By Zoila Palma:  Today, Prime Minister John Briceño met with President of Honduras Nasry Asfura as part of his official visit to Honduras, with discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation between Belize and Honduras.

As Belize holds the Presidency of the Central American Integration System (SICA), the meeting also provided an opportunity to strengthen regional dialogue and build consensus to advance the Central American integration process.

Discussions further addressed cooperation in health and security, including opportunities to recruit medical professionals and expand opportunities for Belizeans to pursue studies and specialized training in Honduras.

The Belizean delegation included Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness; Narda Garcia, Chief Executive Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister; Julio Sabido, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Health and Wellness; Oscar Arnold, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; and Richard Vinelli, Chargé d’affaires, Embassy of Belize in Honduras.

The Honduran delegation included Enrique Rodríguez, Minister of Defense; Juan Carlos García, Minister of the Presidency; Pamela Handal, Subsecretary of State for Foreign Policy; José Miguel Castillo, Subsecretary of Health; and Eduardo Midence, Subsecretary of Health.

The Government of Belize noted that this visit reflects Belize’s commitment to deepening bilateral and regional cooperation and advancing shared priorities for the benefit of both countries and their peoples.
