Rwandan Military officer who fled to Uganda has been slaughtered in Kampala, with Killers taking his head

A former Rwandan Military officer who was living in exile in Uganda has been slaughtered in cold blood with his killers taking the severed head away.

Sergeant Major Robert Kabera’s mutilated body was discovered beheaded in Kamengo, a few kilometres outside Uganda’s capital Kampala.

According to several reports, Robert, a deserter in the Rwandan military who later became a musician.

He was a staunch critic of Paul Kagame’s government using social media platforms to vent his anger.

But as observers expected, Kabera was found cut in pieces and parts dumped and scattered near a construction site of his new house in Uganda.

And according to other reports, one week before Sgt Maj Robert Kabera was reportedly beheaded and mutilated in Uganda, Rwandan star Clenia D. Madederi who is affiliated with the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) publicly appealed to General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to stop critics of President Kagame from using Uganda as a base.

As it happens, Kabera was one of those critics. The timing is alarming.

One of Ugandan socialites commented on his page that Sergeant Major Robert Kabera asked for protection…but today, he is being mourned instead.

“But, behind that devastating news is a man who fled his country, feared for his safety, and put those fears in writing.”

On September 11, 2021, Kabera, who had just fled from Kigali, appealed to local authorities in Uganda for help.

He described accusations circulating against him in Rwandan media, denied them, and said he was unsafe. He wanted his plea forwarded to the police and refugee protection agencies.

Three days later, a local council chairman wrote in support of his appeal, acknowledging his fears and urgently requesting help for his safety.

Many Ugandans call on authorities to conduct a credible, independent investigation into his killing, examine his documented fears, and establish who was responsible—whoever they are.

“Exile should offer refuge. It must never become a death sentence,” they said.

When he defected from Rwanda in 2021, the local media in his home country claimed that Kabera had raped his daughter and fled to Uganda, accusations that he vehemently denied.

Still, the Major was well-known in Rwanda because he balanced a military and music career perfectly.

However, when he got to Uganda, he started attacking Rwandan institutions and asking soldiers to desert.

For most people, Kabera was clearly ‘playing with fire,’ because Uganda and Rwanda governments were one and the same.
