Saint Lucian surfers endure tough time at World Juniors

Team Saint Lucia is having a tough time heading into the final day of the 2026 Surf City El Salvador ISA World Junior Surfing Championship. Still, the three surfers have gained invaluable experience in challenging conditions against some of the world’s top young surfers.

On Monday, the third day of the competition, the waves were strong again, with steady four- to six-foot swells at both Surf City locations, La Bocana and El Sunzal. Saint Lucia’s team is made up of 17-year-olds William Verity and Sebastian Ambler, and 15-year-old Daniel Ambler.

In the Boys Under-18 division, all three Saint Lucians were handed tough assignments. Verity finished fourth in Heat 2 behind athletes from Japan, Puerto Rico and Finland. Sebastian took fourth in Heat 26 against surfers from Portugal, South Africa and Sweden. Daniel was fourth in Heat 36 behind competitors from Japan, Puerto Rico, and Sweden.

The repechage round was just as challenging and marked the end of Saint Lucia’s run in the Under-18 main draw. Verity finished fourth in the first heat, Sebastian was fourth in Heat 13, and Daniel also placed fourth in Heat 17.

Daniel, pulling double duty in El Salvador, also suited up for the Boys Under-16 division. He took fourth in his opening ride in Heat 31 against surfers from France, Canada and Uruguay. He remains Saint Lucia’s lone active surfer at the event, with his next outing coming in the Under-16 repechage round against rivals from Sweden, Israel, and Spain.
