San Pedro drug sweep uncovers 59 gram suspected crack stash under vehicle

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The evening sweep through San Pedro’s DFC area struck twice. Half an hour after intelligence led officers to a stash hidden in a palm tree, a second search across the neighbourhood uncovered an even larger cache, 59.3 grams of suspected crack cocaine, concealed beneath an old Polaris vehicle in an empty lot, bringing the night’s combined haul to nearly 90 grams.

According to the Belize Police Department, at 7:30 p.m., acting on Special Branch intelligence, a search for illegal drugs and ammunition was conducted at an empty lot in the DFC area of San Pedro Town.

While conducting the search, an officer’s attention was drawn to an old Polaris, and further checks underneath the vehicle led to the discovery of a black plastic bag. The bag was retrieved and opened, revealing a transparent plastic bag containing a white buffy substance suspected to be crack cocaine.

No one was in the immediate area at the time of the finding, and the suspected drugs were transported to the San Pedro Police Station.

At the station, the suspected crack cocaine was weighed, amounting to 59.3 grams. It was placed in a manila envelope, properly labelled, sealed, and handed over as found property to the exhibit keeper.

The find came on the heels of the evening’s first discovery, 30.49 grams of suspected crack retrieved from between a small palm tree at an abandoned location in the same area at about 7:00 p.m., placing the sweep’s total at 89.79 grams, by far the largest combined crack seizure in the country’s recent ledger of stash clearances.

No arrests have been made in connection with either find, and the matters remain under police attention.
