Say, WHAT?! Florida Woman Arrested & Charged After Allegedly Setting Man On Fire During Argument

A Florida woman is facing arson and first-degree murder charges after reportedly borrowing a lighter to set a man on fire. Tanisha Shelton was arrested on Saturday, October 24. This, after she allegedly poured accelerant on Nathaniel Devon Mathis and set him on fire amid an ongoing argument.

Florida Woman Allegedly Sets Man On Fire

A 45-year-old Florida woman, Tanisha Shelton, was arrested after allegedly setting a man on fire on Saturday. Shelton was reportedly arguing with Mathis near Northwest 63rd Street and Northwest 25th Avenue in Miami when the incident occurred, per WSVN.

Shelton and the 33-year-old were reportedly having a verbal argument earlier on Saturday, and she allegedly threatened to return later with another person to assault him. She returned that evening around 6:00 p.m. with a white plastic bucket, according to CBS News. Shelton and Mathis began to argue again before she allegedly asked someone nearby to borrow a lighter. After that, she reportedly walked up to Mathis with the bucket and lighter and continued arguing.

Shelton Allegedly Poured Accelerant On Nathaniel Devon Mathis

Shelton allegedly removed a plastic bag from the bucket and poured the contents on Mathis. Afterward, she reportedly used the lighter to set Mathis on fire and ran. The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue team and deputies from the Miami-Dade Police Department arrived at approximately 6:02 p.m. and found Mathis unconscious.

He was rushed to the Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center with both second-degree and third-degree burns over 80 percent of his body. Furthermore, he is not expected to survive and is in critical condition.

Witness Reportedly Used Pepper Spray To Stop Shelton From Getting Away

A witness reportedly sprayed pepper spray on Shelton in an attempt to stop her from leaving the scene. After witnesses provided a description, she was found nearby and subsequently arrested.

It’s unclear why Mathis and Shelton argued. Shelton is reportedly being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Per NBC Miami, a judge denied her bond during a recent court appearance.
