By now, there should be no question that everything is energy. Food and herbs are medicine, hugging trees and touching grass grounds and reconnects you, meditation aids the mind, astrology and tarot assist in seeing things that need to be seen. Some call it woo woo, but from breath work and sound healing to yoga and reiki, these are all holistic healing traditions.
Danni Sinclair, Holistic Interior Designer and Founder of My Peace of Space by Danni Sinclair, is one of nature’s gifts and she is spreading awareness on why the practice of being mindful of personal spaces and intentional with your interiors can positively amplify your lifestyle. From color palettes and photo mark-ups to curated sourcing and layout guidance, My Peace of Space partners with you to create the vision of your home you want to bring into fruition.

“My home is a refuge, not only from the world, but a refuge from my worries, my troubles, my concerns.”—Maya Angelou
During a session of Sheen Talk Live on Instagram, Danni Sinclair shared gems on Feng Shui and how people should deliberately create spaces of peace and protection in both their professional and personal living spaces, by simply moving furniture around—an ancient Black Proverb—and adding a few elements that are in alignment with the highest vibrations.
Feng Shui
Feng is wind and shui is water and both elements represent energy flow in Feng Shui—a holistic tradition widely recognized as an Ancient Chinese practice of ordering what is tangible into positions that harmonize with qi/chi/energy. The five elements of Feng Shui are wood/growth, fire/passion, earth/stability, metal/precision, and water/cleansing. When these elements are present and balanced, wellbeing essentially does well. Circulate energy and release any that is dormant by opening doors and windows daily.
The Command Position is a position of empowerment in Feng Shui, which enhances spatial awareness, giving a person clear views of the rooms and their doors. With those in sight, it increases their sense of security and comfort, further allowing one to experience Jay Appleton’s “prospect and refuge” theory of feeling safe and sheltered. “You want to be in a position of power; you want to be in a position of command.” Danni instructs.
In the bedroom, the headboards of beds should be placed against durable walls, avoiding the window, with space on both sides. The desk in the office should be facing the entrance, so that the person is in a position of control and productivity. Nourishment and resources are in the kitchen, which is why in Feng Shui, there is where the wealth sector is supreme. The stove represents the element of fire and fire is considered for alchemy and transformation. It should not be facing a main entrance, and whoever’s cooking should be able to see the entrance.
Those are the most vital areas of the home and those positions allow the subconscious mind to relax and focus. Representing the self is the bedroom, the office—or wherever a person does their work, which should not be in the bedroom—governs the career, and the kitchen stove influences wealth.
Do’s and Don’ts of Mirrors
Consider mirrors to be more than used for decoration, grooming, and if you look good or nah. When anything physical is illuminated by any light, they bounce onto the metallic coating on the mirror through spectral reflection following the law of reflection. Everything is reflected unto the seer and user of the space, no matter what is in them. You may not be looking at the mirrors, but the mirrors are reflecting all things.
In Feng Shui, mirrors are vigorous amplifiers and conduits of energy. Mirrors new and especially if they were used, should be cleaned with ammonia, using the “wax on, wax off” method. “When cleansing the mirror clockwise, you’re releasing negative energy. Cleansing it counterclockwise is locking the mirror and banishing any previous energy.”
Mirrors add to a room using Yang/light active energy, which is stimulating light frequency. Yin/dark is restful energy, which is why it is important to keep mirrors from facing the bed. Even if the lights are off, the qi/chi/energy towards the bed is moving while sleeping, which can cause the subconscious mind to stay awake. If moving them isn’t an option, Danni suggests covering mirrors for sleeping, including what are considered to be black mirrors that are televisions and cell phones.
“Whatever the mirror is reflecting, you want it to be something soothing and positive, and something that you want to bring more of into your space.” A mirror could be deliberately placed in front of a stack of cash or a dream car, if that is what is being conjured. If the mirror is reflecting clutter, that could be why there is so much of it. Mirrors reflecting desks could amplify the workload. Ensure mirrors are not facing exterior doors, because the mirrors will bounce all the good energy from within, right outside the door and unwanted external energy could slither in. “Whenever you hang a mirror, just think ‘Do I want to double this?’”

Is Your Space Working Against You?
“Your space is working against you anytime you meet resistance.” Danni advises. “When you’re simply leaving your home, are you having to tug on the door to open it or are you having to force it closed because it’s jam? That is friction and a sign of resistance.” Get the door or whatever may be broken, fixed!
You see the clutter, but you suppress it and put it out of your mind. Telling yourself you’ll get to it later, yet you’re picking up on it subconsciously. Now you’re internalizing the friction versus resolving it in the moment. Piles laying around in disarray can raise cortisol levels and suppress serotonin. Why are they there in the first place?
Decorating your space is a way of getting comfortable in it. Empty white walls and voids in the home can add to feeling unsettled and unsafe. Simply adding the pictures, shelves and textiles to the walls can make you feel safe and more at home in your environment. The act of tending to your space by decluttering, releasing attachment to things you may be hoarding, and decorating will reinforce safety within your body and in your home, making your home look and feel sweeter. As the old adage goes, home is where the heart is.
Infusing both eastern and western practices, allows you to receive healing from both approaches. This does not have to be an east versus west contest. As above, so below. As within, so without. In all directions North, South, East and West.
