Spotify Furthers Video Integration With Global Music Video Charts, Full-Length Uploads
The streaming platform also launches full-length video uploads and a music video pitching tool.
Spotify is furthering its video integration as the streaming platform announced what it is calling its Music Video Charts Global, a ranking which measures the top music videos on Spotify; full-length video uploads for artists; and a video pitching tool for artists to get those videos considered for Spotify’s editorial playlists, the company announced today (July 21).
According to a press release, Spotify found that listeners are 64% more likely to stream a song after watching an official music video or live performance than when a fan simply listened to a song. The same study found that fans were 1.4 times more likely to save or share the song and 57% more likely to stream the rest of an artist’s catalog after viewing a video.
Given that data, Spotify is launching this new chart specific to music videos, which lists the top 50 music videos by daily stream count.
The streaming platform is also expanding direct video uploads on Spotify for Artists, providing teams with more options to upload content. Additionally, much like how songs can be pitched to playlists for consideration, videos can now be pitched to Spotify’s editorial team. Video-specific playlists include Best New Videos, Today’s Top Videos, Live Performances and House Party.
Spotify has been continuing to provide more options for both artists and consumers of late. At Spotify’s Investors Day conference in May, the streaming platform announced a licensing deal with Universal Music Group (UMG) to allow for AI covers and remixes from participating artists and songwriters on the label’s roster. The company also unveiled Spotify Reserved, a partnership with Live Nation that allows premium subscribers to purchase tickets to their favorite artists’ upcoming tour dates — allowing tickets to get into the hands of real fans, rather than bots.
