Samyha Suffren scored 14 points, an Atlantic Coast Conference high, and registered a career-best seven rebounds, only for Virginia Tech women’s basketball to lose to No. 13 Louisville on the road on Sunday, January 4. The Hokies were undone 85-60 inside the KFC Yum! Center.

Coming off the bench, Suffren, a 5-8 redshirt sophomore guard, dished a game- and career-high five assists and added three steals without committing a turnover. She took 15 shots to get to 14 points against the Cardinals, netting six of her attempts and hitting both free throws. Forward Carys Baker led the team with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Suffren’s 27 minutes were a season high, as were her 15 field goal attempts, her seven rebounds, and five assists. She scored 17 points twice earlier this season, most recently against Presbyterian in early December, benefiting from seven made field goals and five free throw attempts on that occasion.

In 15 games, Sunday was Suffren’s sixth time scoring in double figures. She leads the team in steals with 31 and is third in assists with 21. She played in just 10 games last season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.
